Lambert thrilled with Aston Villa progress

Paul Lambert admits he has been delighted by the improvement and development his side has experienced so far this season.

The West Midlands club sit 13th on the Premier League table with three wins, a draw and five losses from nine outings but Lambert feels they are in a steady position, especially after playing most of the top teams.

"I don't like getting beaten, but it's not a worry," he said ahead of the weekend's trip to West Ham United. "We are a point off ninth. It's incredible the way the league is. We are playing well.

"If you look at our fixtures we've played every top (team) bar Manchester United, if you're talking about the big six. We've taken six points more than we did against the top ones (last season).

"The progress has been huge for us."
