Lallana highlights psychological importance of Liverpool-Man Utd clash

Adam Lallana has claimed that confidence is high among the Liverpool ranks and that they are ready to obtain the psychological edge on Manchester United by beating them on Sunday.

A win over United at Anfield will see the Reds leapfrog their arch rivals into fourth spot and Lallana feels it could be important for their Champions League hopes for the remainder of the campaign.

"Psychologically for us it is massive," he told talkSPORT's 'Drivetime' program.

"If we win we go above United and we get one foot into the top four.

"We are just focused on being consistent, keeping clean sheets and winning football matches.

"We will be focusing on ourselves on Sunday, that's what we have been doing, and confidence is high. We are very confident we can get the victory."

Brendan Rodgers' team is on an impressive run in the league, having not lost in their last 13 matches, but ironically their last defeat came against the Red Devils at Old Trafford on December 14, when they lost 3-0.
