England star David Beckham was flying back to the UK today to be with his father, who is seriously ill in hospital.
The former England skipper boarded a flight bound for Britain in Los Angeles last night amid reports his father had suffered a heart attack, says The Sun.
He is due to arrive at Heathrow at lunchtime today before heading straight to visit his father, Ted, 59, who is said to be fighting for his life.
The gas fitter, who once dreamed of being a footballer himself, was taken to Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, east London, last night.
He was then transferred to another hospital in the early hours of this morning.
The footballer's father is also called David, but is known as Ted, which is short for his middle name, Edward.
He is divorced from David's mother, Sandra, with whom he also had a daughter called Joanne.
In 2005, he published a book called David Beckham: My Son.
