LA Galaxy's 'wise' Leonardo looking forward to big 2013

LA Galaxy defender Leonardo insists he is a much calmer person than when he first arrived at the club.

The 24-year old Brazilian arrived on loan from Sao Paulo in 2010 but has not been able to play a competitive MLS match since April 2011 when he was struck down with a knee injury.

Leonardo, who signed permanently with the Galaxy in February last year, had some setbacks in his recovery from the initial injury but is now close to full fitness and feeling good ahead of the 2013 campaign.

"Right now, the knee's really good," he said through an interpreter Monday. "I think it will be 100 percent when we start playing games.

"Right now I'm slowly getting back to where I need to be.

"(I'm) definitely a different player. More experienced. I've seen lot of games and I also have a different perspective on life. I'm calmer now and more relaxed as far as how I go and approach things.

"When I came here I was very young. Now I'm 24. In that time I've seen a lot of games and lot of things. That made me wiser. Now it's a case of showing that on the field.

"That's what I'm hoping to do this season."
