LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan has admitted he was close to a move to a Mexican club before agreeing to join Everton on loan. The 27-year old revealed that negotiations with Club America got to an advanced stage before Everton showed more interest.
"It's a nice change of pace, a different challenge," Donovan said of the stint in England.
"It came down to Club América and Everton."
Donovan said the Club America were very interested but said the chance to play in the English Premier League with USA teammate Tim Howard won out.
"They were very interested and we spoke to them," Donovan explained.
"The decision for me to have an opportunity to go to Everton, with Tim [Howard] there, to play in the Premier League, that made the most sense."
