MLS giants LA Galaxy will host English Premier League outfit Manchester City in an international friendly in July. An ever-increasing number of English clubs are making their way to the States and City have decided to get in on the act by being a part of the 'Herbalife World Football Challenge' at The Home Depot Center on July 24.
The match against City will kick-off at 1 pm and is one of two international matches the Galaxy will play in 2011. The Galaxy announced last Friday that the club will take on Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid for a second consecutive year on Saturday, July 16 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Galaxy president Tom Payne said the City fixture was a brilliant coup by the Los Angeles club who are beginning to gain worldwide recognition.
"It was very important to our club to host an international friendly here at The Home Depot Center for our fans, especially those who come to this stadium week in and week out to support the Galaxy," Payne said.
"We are very excited to welcome Manchester City, a team that is challenging for the FA Cup and that has just secured a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League.
"Our stadium offers fans the unique experience of feeling like you are right on top of the action. We all remember the amazing atmosphere inside the stadium two years ago for our match against AC Milan. We look forward to having the same type of crowd on July 24."
Man City boss Roberto Mancini said the Eastlands club was very excited about the trip to LA.
"We saw the enthusiasm for football in America when we went out there last summer, it was a really good tour for us," said Mancini.
"This summer is going to be just as exciting for all of the City players, coaches and hopefully a good number of our fans, who will come out to see us play."
