LA Galaxy took five new players in Tuesday's MLS Supplemental Draft and three of them are local products.
Bryan Gaul of Illinois' Bradley University and Brazilian Yuri Gorentzvaig joined Cal-State Northbridge's Rafael Garcia, University of San Diego product Stephen Posa and San Diego State's Justin Davies with all five now attempting to make the Galaxy's senior roster.
"The challenge for these players, short-term, is to make the roster and I can't even look that far ahead to see if they're going to be stepping on the field with our first team in the year.
"The initial challenge for them is to make our roster. We return a fair amount of our roster, so it's not going to be easy for anybody. It will be challenging.""Whenever we can have an opportunity to have some of our local players compete to be on the Galaxy roster, I think it's a real plus," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said.
Gaul is a left-footed defender who can play either center-back or left-back, defensive midfielder Garcia performed well at the recent MLS Combine, Gorentzvaig is a forward, Posa plays mainly on the right wing and Davies, the younger brother of USA international Charlie, primarily plays at right-back.
