Kranjcar: QPR return nothing to do with Ukraine conflict

Niko Kranjcar has explained his decision to re-sign for QPR this season.

Kranjcar is on loan at Loftus Road from Dynamo Kiev, a club based in the capital city of a nation in crisis.

"Not for one minute was I afraid for my safety," the Croatian told the London Evening Standard. "It is not a nice environment because you never know what can happen. But coming from a country that has lived through war, I did not feel scared.

"The season after I joined Dynamo Kiev from Tottenham, in 2012, everything was fine. It was when I was here at QPR last season that it all started, so I was not in the midst of it. Hopefully, the situation will resolve itself sooner rather than later.

"The fighting is in the east, so you don't really feel it in Kiev because the conflict is 600km away. You see it in newspapers and on television, but there is nothing dangerous in and around the city. It was purely for football reasons I wanted to leave."
