Southampton boss Ronald Koeman believes strong squad depth is vital to achieve success in cup competitions.
The Dutchman made seven changes to his side in their 2-1 League Cup victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday.
"You need more than 11 players, and we know that was also the reason to sign more players in the summer - to have a stronger squad in the Premier League, Capital One Cup and FA Cup," Koeman said after the game.
"Everybody likes to go to Wembley and to play for a trophy. That would be amazing. We have to do a lot of good things to reach a final, but that's our ambition, yes."
Maya Yoshida and Graziano Pelle scored second-half goals for the Saints while Villa could only reply in the second half injury-time through Scott Sinclair.
