Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says that the Reds must forget their European past and start afresh in Champions League.
The Merseysiders are five-time European champions, and they have returned to the competition this season following a two-year absence.
Klopp's side managed a 2-2 home draw with Sevilla in their opening group game, and they will face Spartak Moscow on Tuesday.
Klopp said: “We had to start new, that is clear. But we are ready for the Champions League.
“Records like that are a problem when people can remember them. It is a number — nothing else. We are not the same team, only the same name.
“In the past, a lot of teams won the Champions League and then had no chance for the next five, six, ten years. Things change.
“As long as we don't misjudge the circumstances or the names — thinking of England, Russia, Slovenia or Spain — then we will be really ready for the competition."
