USA national team boss Jurgen Klinsmann has backed Clint Dempsey's pursuit for Champions League football.

The Fulham ace has made no secret of the fact that he wants to join a club who consistently plays in Europe's premier club competition and he now has the blessing of his national team manager.

"His goal is the right goal," Klinsmann said.

"If he has the opportunity to go a Champions League team, that's the creme de la creme in the world of club soccer, then you've got to do that."
