Kewell determined to make Socceroos squad

Harry Kewell is intent on making the Socceroos squad for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Japan in Yokohama. Kewell underwent an operation on a hernia in his groin about two months ago but has not played since due to the Turkish league having an extended winter break.

The Turkcell Super Lig returns this weekend and Kewell is determined to play for Galatasaray so he can prove his fitness to Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek.

First he has to influence Gala' boss Michael Skibbe to give him enough game time against Kayserispor on Saturday.

"I have told the manager (Skibbe) that I'm ready for selection so it's his call," Kewell said.

"Things have gone really well since the operation in December and I think I'm about 95 per cent there fitness-wise.

"I will have a fitness test on Friday and then it's up to the team doctor and manager to make the call.

"Japan has some fantastic players and at home they will be hard to beat so I would love to be there," he said.

"This is probably the hardest match that we will have in this campaign. "I'm doing everything possible to play this weekend, even if it's off the bench, to show Pim that I am back to full fitness."
