Argentine great Mario Kempes has questioned claims Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez is ready to replace Luis Suarez at Barcelona.

The two clubs are locked in talks over a deal for the Argentina international amid a suggestion he'd arrive to replace veteran Suarez.

But Kempes told RAC1: "I do not know if Lautaro would be a good matador but if he is to be a good player for Barça, everyone will say that he is the replacement for Luisito Suarez, but do not presume Luisito Suarez is dead, the Uruguayan has strength, he has a terrific self-esteem, he's one of those players who never lowers his arms and on the pitch is very important for the team.

“Lautaro can be an important deal, I will not deny it. He is a young boy, with impressive strength, a good game and a goal. All I will say he'll be an alternate or a substitute but cannot tie the boots of Luis Suárez who still has a few years left."
