Kanu hoping to play his way into Portsmouth semi team

Nwankwo Kanu was pleased to get on the Portsmouth scoresheet in last night's 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City.

The Nigerian veteran admits he hopes to play his way into Pompey's FA Cup semifinal team.

Kanu told The News: "We played some good football at times in the first half, but didn't play well overall and that is disappointing.

"Perhaps we were a little bit tired, I am not so sure. But we have to keep on playing, especially in the position we are in. There is no excuse for what happened last night, we just didn't play well.

"I enjoyed my goal and I will always try to keep on scoring, especially when it's been such a long time. Hopefully, I can keep doing it for Wembley and get back in the team for that.

"But the most important thing at the moment is the league, so everybody was disappointed."
