Kanu feels ready for regular Portsmouth start

After his scoring performance against AC Milan, Portsmouth striker Nwankwo Kanu feels he's ready for a regular start.

Kanu recalls: "I made my Portsmouth debut against Blackburn and scored twice but then missed a penalty when I could have had a hat-trick.

"I also scored the winning goal away against them last season and so this is a good fixture for me. Hopefully that will continue on Sunday.

"This season has been frustrating for me because I have had a few injuries and have not played many minutes. So it was nice to start and to score against Milan.

"I had problems with my knee at the start of the season but I am fit now, feeling sharp and ready to play every match."

Boss Tony Adams said: "That was Kanu's first start since the FA Cup final when he scored the winner. It was a miracle having him out on the pitch for 80 minutes of the 90 but I have to say I was amazed by our fitness levels."

He teamed 6ft 7ins Peter Crouch and 6ft 5ins Kanu for the first time together against Milan and said: "It kind of worked. There were a few crosses and a few headers for the big guys so it was worth a try."

"Why can't it work ? Arsene Wenger put Kanu and Dennis Bergkamp together at Arsenal and that often paid off."
