Kane and Vardy on target as England edge Turkey

Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy provided the goals as England continued their preparations for Euro2016 with a 2-1 win over Turkey on Sunday.

Roy Hodgson's Three Lions scored early and late to edge the Turkish side at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester in front of just under 45,000 fans.

The opening goal came in just the third minute when Dele Alli play a neat through ball to his Spurs teammate Kane, who despite being clearly offside, was allowed to play on slot expertly beyond Volkan Babacan.

10 minutes later, Fatih Terim's side were back on level terms when Volkan Sen found an unmarked Hakan Calhanoglu who fired home from just outside the six-yard box under little pressure.

In the 71st minute, Leicester City hero Vardy was brought down in the area by Mehmet Topal, prompting referee Deniz Aytekin to point to the spot but Kane fired into the upright.

With seven minutes remaining, England hit the front when defender Ismail Koybasi and Barbican failed to deal with Gary Cahill's goal-ward header which invited Vardy to slam it home from close range, consigning Turkey to their first defeat since November 2014.

England will now prepare for next weekend's meeting with Australia at the Stadium of Light as their first Group B fixture against Russia on June 11 in Marseille looms closer.
