A member of Gael Kakuta's family is at the centre of FIFA's transfer ban for Chelsea handed down last week.
The Stamford Bridge club insist they have done nothing wrong and are appealing against the tough penalty to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
But a source inside FIFA has told the Sunday Mirror that a statement provided from inside the Kakuta family was the evidence that provoked world football's governing body into meting out their transfer ban.
A FIFA insider said: "Our process was meticulous and all parties involved would have been asked for their observations and to give evidence before any decision was made.
"They included the clubs, the player, agents and family so Chelsea were well aware they were on trial here."
