Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli welcomed the endorsement of club backer John Elkann last night.

Elkann handed the Juve board his vote of confidence before victory over Real Madrid and Cobolli Gigli said at the final whistle: "I must say that I have not received any phone call from John Elkann, however, I'm convinced that the message is genuine.

"John Elkann speaks as the first great fan of Juventus, as president of the shareholding company, knowing that Juventus is a company listed on the stock exchange and there are another 40,000 shareholders that count less in weight, but no less in our account.

"I was very pleased to know that John Elkann, away in the United States is close to Juve and, if the words that he said were interpreted by the newspaper, we welcome them 100%."
