Juventus midfielder Mauro Camoranesi was relieved after getting on the scoresheet for Italy in their 2-2 draw with the Republic of Ireland.
"We are very happy. We have qualified, came here to play a great game and I think we ran few real risks. It would've been an injustice to lose three minutes from the end," he said afterwards.
The Azzurri were twice trailing in Croke Park, but fought back to grab the point they needed for World Cup qualification.
"The fact we reacted so strongly is a real sign of our grit and how we never give in. We have achieved our first objective and must take it one step at a time.
"It will certainly be a difficult tournament. We had the chance in the Confederations Cup to get an idea of the climate and the pitches, now we have the second half of the season to prepare for the competition.
"Now we have three days to get ready for the next game and hope it will be a celebration at Parma, as the fans can come together with this team and enjoy the moment."
