Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon is proud to have matched Paolo Maldini's appearances record.
Featuring in victory over Sampdoria last night, Buffon made it 647 Serie A appearances - so drawing level with record holder and AC Milan icon Maldini.
Afterwards, Buffon insisted: “I am happy more than anything else because we won, so I managed to combine team satisfaction with personal satisfaction. I deserved the finish line, I also took the long road around by doing a season in B and the French one, so I take things easy.
"I reached this at 42, but I made it well physically and with my mind. My role, regardless of the matches, gives me a lot of satisfaction and they are also small signs of humility. Making yourself available to others despite having been Buffon, with your career and you are still a valid goalkeeper means that there is something beautiful.
"With these companions I have shared most of my life, I have to put them in a position to give my best for the cause. Next record? It is not a matter of becoming unreachable or not. The thing I liked about the last 200-300 games is that inside of me I started to think in an altruistic way, for the team. Maybe even playing less games, making sacrifices for others. This is the real satisfaction, I have never acted selfishly with others and I am very proud of this."
