Juventus coach Pirlo: Agnelli didn't need to reassure me

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo is confident he retains the support of the board after their Champions League disaster.

Porto bounced Juve out of the competition last night at the round 16 stage, despite being a man down in the second-leg.

Pirlo says he's since spoken to president Andrea Agnelli and is confident he still has the board's backing.

He declared, "Yes, we talked after the match. We talked about the future. We tried to do our best by creating an opportunity with (Alvaro) Morata right from the start that could have started the game.

"Then we had ten minutes of discomfort where we weren't compact with an impact of the situation where we thought it was hard to overturn the result. In the second half we had it back on its feet but then we made a mistake that cost us the qualification.

"He did not reassure me of anything because I was already calm, he told me that the project has just begun, the players who arrived have shown that they are from Juve and that they can play these games with this importance."

Asked if this was the end of the careers for some of his veterans, Pirlo insisted: "There is great disappointment as within the whole team: from the veterans to the youngest. The goal of all was to reach the qualification. I would not speak for them of the end of a cycle, but of the beginning. Those part of this group will be proud."
