Jurgen Klopp: Jokes, pleas and targets - the best from his Liverpool unveiling

New Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp dubbed himself 'The Normal One' at this morning's unveiling in front of the world's media.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach, flanked by managing director Ian Ayre, kicked off the media conference with an apology.

"Sorry for my English," he began, before quickly declaring, "but I'm back in the race.

"Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world. And I am here to try to help. I don't think things are as difficult as is being reported. Its not so difficult here as people in this room believe."

Asked about what drew him to the job, Klopp admits the Liverpool culture convinced him.

"I admire the intensity of the football in Liverpool. How Liverpool fans live their football around the world. It's a very special club. After going from Mainz to Borussia Dortmund, this is the perfect step for me."

Klopp, on several occasions, urged the media to be realistic about expectations at Anfield.

"It's one of the biggest problems we have at the club.

"Here in the Premiership, sorry, the Premier League, there are five, six, seven clubs who can be champion. But only one can win. For the rest, you live in a period of disaster.

"(Sigh) the most important thing we have to develop is the start. This is a restart. We must work and play our game.

"The players need to feel the trust of the fans. They need to have the self-belief. We have to start together anew. Stop thinking about money. Spending. Think about the football.

"The fans should come to the ground wanting to see a fighting spirit. Many sprints. Many shots. Not worrying about money (transfers)."

Asked about Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho dubbing himself the 'Special One', Klopp was eager to describe himself as a "normal" bloke.

"I don't want to describe myself... Does anyone here think I can perform wonders? No?

"I come from Black Forest. My Mother is watching this at home. I'm the normal one. I was a very average player. As coach, I started with Mainz. Then had a great opportunity with Dortmund. A very special club.

"Now I'm here. I hope to enjoy my work."

And he quipped: "Everyone told me about the British press. Its up to you to prove they are liars!"

On Liverpool's infamous transfer committee, Klopp insisted reports of wanting it disbanded were wide of the mark.

"A crazy discussion. Not a probem. For ten seconds we talked about it. I'm not an idiot. I don't want to be... I won't say what I said yesterday.

"We only want to talk about very good players. I'm not a genius. I need the other people to help me. When we need to, we will talk about selling and sign players."

Finally, Klopp set himself a target to win the Premier League.

"It's more important what people think of you when you leave the club, than when you arrive. If I am still sitting here in four years, we'll have won the title."
