Aron Johannsson netted a hat-trick as AZ Alkmaar produced a late show to beat Sparta Rotterdam 4-1 in the KNVB Beker (Dutch Cup) second round on Wednesday.
The USA international opened the scoring in the fifth minute when he slotted home a flick-on from Roy Beerens before Sparta responded through Johan Voskamp three minutes later.
But Johannsson gave AZ the ascendency in the first few minutes of extra-time with a header before completing his treble in the 105th minute by tapping home Joey Gudmundsson's cross.
Steven Berghuis rounded out the win for AZ in a night which took Johannsson's scoring tally to nine goals from 12 games so far this season.
