Jeremy Doku has explained why he rejected Liverpool to join Rennes last year.

Belgium wonderkid Doku chose to join Rennes rather than Liverpool when he quit Anderlecht last summer and he's been explaining his decision.

Speaking to Het Nieuwsblad, he believes that it was 'too soon' to move to Anfield, claiming he has a lot to learn before making such a big move and that Rennes was the ideal destination rather than going to Liverpool.

Doku said: “I did a lot of research first, wrote down all the positive points and only then did I make a decision.

“I knew that I first wanted to make an intermediate step. Going to a top club now would be too soon. I still have a lot to learn and Rennes is the ideal place for that."
