Japan management upbeat on return for Arsenal defender Tomiyasu

Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has received a boost to his World Cup hopes.

Tomiyasu is in the 26-man squad for Japan for the tournament in Qatar this winter.

Tomiyasu has been struggling for regular game time at the Premier League club this season.

Ben White has made the right-back spot his own, while competition for places at left-back is equally fierce.

He has also been dealing with an injury, according to manager Mikel Arteta.

However, as Japan prepare to take on Germany, Spain and Costa Rica in the group stages of the World Cup, Tomiyasu is among the players in their 26-man party.

Coach Hajime Moriyasu stated on Tomiyasu during the squad announcement: "I've been told that he can return to work before the start of the World Cup, that he will recover without giving up and face it in good condition."
