Jagielka lauds world-class Everton teammate Rooney

Phil Jagielka has hailed his Everton team-mate Wayne Rooney for being exceptional.

Rooney helped his side secure a 1-1 draw against Brighton on Sunday as he coolly slotted home a penalty during the late minute of the game after Anthony Knockeart gave Brighton the lead in the 82nd minute.

Toffees manager Ronald Koeman was impressed by the way in which Rooney acted as he stepped up to take the spot-kick after he had to endure jeers from Seagulls fans.

Jagielka also hailed his team-mate after the match and said:"We've seen him practice in training. He can obviously go both sides, so it's difficult for the goalkeeper to read. He was the right person at the right time.

"It's just one of those periods at the moment. We are working hard on the training ground to rectify that"

Despite the draw, Everton are still in a spot of bother as they have taken just eight points from their opening eight Premier League games this season.
