J-League welcomes new chairman Ohigashi

The Japanese domestic competition, the J-League, have announced a new chairman in the guise of Kazumi Ohigashi.

The Kashima Antlers president has stepped into the role which was vacated by Kenji Onitake following the expiration of his two-year role.

Ohigashi said he was looking forward to leading the major showpiece of Japanese football following the national team's positive performance in the recent World Cup.

"After Japan's successful run in the World Cup, the Japanese people are watching soccer with more attention," Ohigashi said in a press conference. "It is our aim to bring the J-League closer to the world level. I also want to help strengthen the national team."
