Italy U21 coach Gigi di Biagio has weighed into Francesco Totti's departure from Roma.

Totti quit the club after 30 years of involvement on Monday.

“I have an idea on the issue and I'll talk about it with Francesco, although we've already talked about it," Di Biagio, a former teammate of the No 10, said at an U21 Euros media conference.

“From the outside, it seems as if they want to hurt themselves. After what happened with him, Daniele (De Rossi) and in other situations, I don't understand what's happening, especially since in recent months, talking with Francesco between games of tennis, I saw him involved.

“He talked to me about sporting directors, Coaches, the players he wanted. I saw him ready to start a certain type of journey.

“It's a shame for Roma and their fans. I don't know what happened."
