Italy coach Roberto Mancini says Mauro Icardi deserved the Inter Milan captaincy.

Mancini made the Argentine club captain when Inter coach, though the striker was stripped of the honour a fortnight ago.

Asked about the situation, Mancini said: "I cannot get into this discussion.

"I've never had any problems.

"He was fundamental and we thought he could make Inter history. We had to choose the captain and we chose him."
