Inverness support Dundee United in opposition to 10-team SPL

A proposed 10-team Scottish Premier League looks set to fall over with two of the current 12 clubs opposing the idea.

The SPL are pushing for the rule to come in so they can run a more efficient and streamlined competition but Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Dundee United are against the notion, which will almost certainly deny it from going ahead.

Caley chairman George Fraser also indicated that Kilmarnock were opposed to the concept as well.

"Along with Kilmarnock, as things stand there would appear to be three of us against it," Fraser said.

Whilst Caley boss Terry Butcher said it would be going back to the dark ages to have 10 teams playing in Scotland's top flight.

"If you're looking at reconstruction, you're not looking at deconstruction," Butcher said. "Deconstruction's a ten-team league, it's going back to the dinosaur era."
