Tottenham have informed Inter Milan that Jan Vertonghen will not be sold in January.
But Inter have not been deterred and will look to sign the defender next summer, says the Daily Mail.
Inter are planning to sign Vertonghen for free when his contract runs out in June, and could make an approach the Belgium international in the new year in hope of reaching a pre-contract agreement.
The 32-year-old, who joined Spurs in 2012, is considering his options and is free to talk to other clubs as he enters the last six months of his contract.
Inter currently sit second in the Serie A table after nine games, a point behind leaders Juventus.
