Inter Milan legend Marco Materazzi can understand Gigi Buffon's meltdown at Real Madrid last week.

The Juventus captain is being defended by many inside Italian football for his attack on ref Michael Oliver.

Materazzi said: "It can happen.

“When I next see him I'll ask if he'd do it again… I've been wrong a lot of times, we're human and it's important to understand that.

“Let's just say I'd have liked to see what I'd have done if someone had taken that from me like they did with Gigi.

“Under the shirt there's a heart beating and blood flowing, these things can happen."
