Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian says victory over Lecce was all that mattered for their opening game of the season.
Lecce pushed Inter all the way but lost 2-1 at home on Saturday.
“We wanted to start with a win, it only came right at the end, but based on what we created during the game I think it was deserved," Darmian said.
“So we take the three points but we also know that we can and must improve. We'll work on it during the week, and then Sunday after Sunday we'll be ready.
“We know that the matches must be killed off, especially ones like on Saturday, which can be determined by episodes, which could be a free-kick or a corner kick."
He admitted, “We had to be more concrete. We'll certainly try to kill games off earlier so that we don't risk the result like we did on Saturday.
“My role is to work, improve day by day, and always give the coach a difficult decision to make. And then, when called upon, to give my contribution."
