India national team striker Sunil Chhetri has been denied a work permit by the British government.

The 25-year old has now missed out on an opportunity to join English Championship club Queens Park Rangers.

The Football Players' Association of India said the British government permitted only non-European Union players if their country was among the top-70 in the world rankings and the player was a current international but India are ranked 156th.

Chhetri currently plays with Goa-based club Dempo SC in India's I-League.
