New Aston Villa captain Gabby Agbonlahor admits he has learnt plenty from past skippers to help him with the role.
The 26-year old attacker has been installed as Villa's leader in the absence of Stiliyan Petrov, who is battling leukemia, and feels he is equipped to do a good job for the West Midlands club.
"I learned a lot from all of them and I've also matured as a player, so the prospect of being captain isn't as daunting as it might have been a couple of years ago.
"I had my first taste of wearing the armband when Stiliyan missed the recent game at Wigan with a thigh strain.""Olof Mellberg was the man with the armband when I made my debut in 2006 and since then we have had Gareth Barry, Martin Laursen and, of course, Stiliyan," Agbonlahor told the Birmingham Mail.
But the England international indicates that he does not the role on a permanent basis as he would rather Petrov make a full recovery.
''My biggest wish is that Stiliyan will come back and lead us again.""I am honoured to be wearing the captain's armband and I just wish it could have been in different circumstances," he addd.
