Hughton pleased as Brighton secure Tottenham draw

Brighton secured a crucial point as they drew with Tottenham on Monday night.

Harry Kane's 26th league goal of the season, following Gaetan Bong's error, put Spurs in sight of an 11th away win.

But Brighton were behind for just two minutes, Pascal Gross levelling with an excellent penalty after Serge Aurier had caught Jose Izquierdo.

The Seagulls are without a win in six games but are eight points above the relegation zone with four games left.

Brighton manager Chris Hughton said afterwards: "It's a step in the right direction, and what I was most delighted with was the character of the team to concede the way we did and then react the way we did.

"We showed great quality in the areas when we needed to.

"Against these big sides you have got to give everything and if you are below your best they can really hurt you.

"They have such quality, speed and appreciation of space that you have to be disciplined around that, and maybe in the first half we gave it away too easily.

"The supporters have been excellent all season. Our performances here have been good and we have needed them. With any support, if they see reaction from the players they will get behind them."
