Houston Dynamo decline options on Cummings, ex-Hearts winger Driver

Houston Dynamo have opted against offering new contracts to a duo of experienced players.

The Texan outfit have declined options on Omar Cummings and Andrew Driver following the 2014 MLS season which will free up plenty of salary cap space for the 2015 campaign.

32-year old Jamaican forward, formerly of the Colorado Rapids, made 26 appearances and scored three goals this term while 27-year old winger Driver, who started his career in Scotland with Heart of Midlothian, appeared on 34 occasions.

A trio of other players - Brian Ownby, Bryan Salazar and Anthony Arena - also had their options declined by the Dynamo.

Dynamo general manager Matt Jordan decided to exercise the option on Young Designated Player Alexander Lopez and the injury-prone Jermaine Taylor while the likes of captain Brad Davis, top scorers Giles Barnes and Will Bruin and Honduras international Boniek Garcia were all kept on.

Jordan told MLSsoccer.com: "This is the time of the year where difficult decisions are required.

"It's handled on a case-by-case basis. Some of the players are returning and some are not."
