Honours even as England U21's draw with Germany

England finish top of Group B and progress into the semi-finals of the European Championships along with Germany after a 1-1 draw in Halmstad. Germany took the lead after only four minutes when slack defending allowed Gonzalo Castro to finish clinically.

But Jack Rodwell celebrated his first start for the Young Three Lions with an equaliser just before the half hour.

England then dominated the game after a shaky start but were unable to find that elusive winner.

However, there is now the prospect of facing Germany again - this time in the final.

England head coach Stuart Pearce made 10 changes to the side that defeated Spain 2-0 last week and told Sky Sports News: "I am not so sure it (the team selection) was a gamble or it paid off.

"I had trust in the players and bear in mind that I have worked with them for the last three weeks.

"I have seen the ability shining through in the Rodwells and the Stearmans. They've really given me something to think about.

"I am impressed with Rodwell and I am impressed with Stearman. I could go through name after name. I could go through the whole lot of them.

"I picked a side to win a match. If we had needed more than a point, I think we would have got it. That is my personal opinion.

"I wouldn't swap my squad of players for any other nation that are here at the moment, if I am being honest.

"Time will tell. If we don't focus game-to-game we will go home."
