Hollywood star Hugh Jackman joins Australia World Cup bid

Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman has joined Australia's World Cup bid team.

Jackman has joined actress and fellow Australia co-star Nicole Kidman in publicly supporting Australia's efforts to bring the FIFA World Cup™ to their home country.

The Wolverine star and sports lover is confident about Australia's chances of success and points to the sporting passion of his countrymen as a major selling point.

As he travels the world Jackman will fly the flag for Australia and urge decision makers to throw their support behind the Bid.

"Australia as host of the 2018 or 2022 World Cup would without doubt be an event that would surpass the enormous success we had as a nation for the Olympics in 2000. Our passion for sport is legendary and our ability to stage massive global events equally well recognised," said Hugh Jackman.

"I am honoured to support Football Federation Australia as they work with FIFA on our bid to host the World Cup," he added.

"Our bid is tracking well and we are thrilled to have the support of Hugh Jackman. A FIFA World Cup™ on home soil would provide a living legacy," said Football Federation Australia CEO, Ben Buckley.

The FIFA Executive Committee will make a decision on the hosts for the FIFA World Cup™ in 2018 and 2022 on 2 December 2010.
