Hodgson says Chelsea defender Cahill emerging as one world's best

England coach Roy Hodgson feels Chelsea defender Gary Cahill is emerging as one of the major players in the game.

How good is Cahill now at the age of 28, perhaps entering the prime years of his career?

"I think Gary is entitled to a good status in the world game," says Hodgson as he prepares for the next two Euro 2016 qualifiers against San Marino and Estonia this week.

"He seems to be more and more comfortable with the responsibility of top matches, with England and with Chelsea in the Champions League.

"Over the last couple of years he has had a really good partnership together with John Terry. I think he has a quiet authority; he's someone who really knows what his job is, takes the job very seriously, and works very hard to get better.

"He's also still relatively young, and he's gaining all the time, growing in experience and becoming stronger and more vocal as well. I think he realises that we rely on him quite heavily as one of our senior players."
