Wayne Rooney has been lauded by England manager Roy Hodgson ahead of his 100th international appearance.
The Manchester United forward will continue his role as skipper of the Three Lions when they meet Slovenia in Euro2016 qualifying at Wembley on Saturday.
Rooney, who replaced Steven Gerrard as captain after the Liverpool star retired at the end of the World Cup, has stepped into the role with ease according to Hodgson who has reserved special praise for the 29-year old.
"He has taken the captaincy unbelievably seriously, as did Steven before him," said Hodgson. "He is a very caring captain, as was Steven.
"He is very good with the younger players. Very good at making certain that everyone is comfortable and satisfied and there are no problems with the individuals within the group.
"That is important to me and the coaching staff because you don't always pick those things up.
"It's good to have that liaison with a man who is so close to the team and his players - and who can communicate."
Rooney made his England debut back in 2003 and has since scored 43 goals in 99 outings to sit fourth on the all-time Three Lions scoring charts.
