Former England coach Glenn Hoddle has quickly been won over by Manchester City teen Phil Foden.
Foden has been described as looking “more South American" than his opponents after helping England under-17s beat Chile in their World Cup opener.
He capped a sparkling display in Kolkata with a silky backheel that opened up the opposition defence, and should have led to another England goal. Former City teammate Jadon Sancho scored twice in the game, while Chelsea's George McEachran was also outstanding.
That led Hoddle to tweet: “Just watched the under 17s beat Chile, very impressive set of players. Foden looked more South American than they did! Great start."
