Hoddle backs Man Utd attacker Rashford for England ahead of Sterling

Former England manager Glenn Hoddle believes that Marcus Rashford could get the nod for England ahead of Raheem Sterling.

While Sterling is the man who scored many more goals this past season, and won the Premier League, Hoddle believes that Rashford has special qualities that manager Gareth Southgate admires.

The former England boss told ITV Sport: "I hope he plays with two up front. I'd love to see Rashford and [Harry] Kane.

"Sterling's done great for his club but 19 games without scoring a goal as your second striker or main striker for England and the positions he picks up there are completely different for City.

"I would look at Rashford and Kane. That would scare the life out of any defence, those two.

"In world football, not many centre-backs are used to playing with two up against them.

"One with pace and one with strength and a bit of guile can do either.

"They're used to playing one striker and it's the full-backs that push on and I think we could cause them a few problems.

"Dele Alli would have to change his role a bit, he's not going to be put in behind the one striker, he'd have to become that one of three in midfield and play slightly different but get in the box still."
