Hibs prospect Ayre admits he fancied Hearts move

Hibs' Canadian prospect Keegan Ayre admits he was disappointed to have missed out on a deal with Edinburgh rivals Hearts!

Ayre, currently home in Canada preparing for the Under-20 World Cup which kicks off in his homeland later this month, told the Edinburgh Evening News: "I was with our Under-17 team in Germany and did well.

"A scout from Blackburn Rovers spotted me and I went on trial with them. It didn't work out but it was a good experience and I had trials with other clubs, Sheffield Wednesday and Hearts, before I went pre-season to Middlesbrough.

"I thought I had done well at Hearts and at the time I was disappointed I wasn't signed. But things happen for a reason. There's an obvious connection between Tony Mowbray and Middlesbrough and through chatting to people my name came up.

"I've got my chance at Hibs and I think I have made the right choice. I arrived in January last year and I'm now knocking on the door of the first-team."
