Hibernian to improve playing surface

Hibernian are set to improve the pitch at Easter Road after recent criticism from visiting managers and their own players. A club statement read: "Hibernian FC accepts that the standard of the pitch at Easter Road Stadium is below the level expected by the club and the quality of surface achieved earlier in the season.

"The timing of matches at times of extreme weather has added to the problem and the Easter Road surface is not the only pitch in Scotland to be showing signs of distress at this point in the season.

"The quality of the playing surface is of vital importance and work has been ongoing throughout the season to achieve the best standard possible.

"Further work was already scheduled for the next few weeks following advice from the club's pitch consultants.

"These measures are designed to improve the playing surface in the short term.

"A larger programme of work has been identified for the close season to restore the pitch to previous standards."
