Hertha Berlin's Brooks planning to make World Cup impact

Hertha Berlin defender John Anthony Brooks is hoping he can become an influential player in the USA national team.

The 21-year old German-born defender has had an up and down season in the Bundesliga, making just 14 appearances mainly because of injury, but he has been restricted by mediocre form.

However, Brooks' subpar campaign in Germany's top flight has not dented his confidence as he is planning on forcing his way into Juergen Klinsmann's US side for this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

"There have been highs and lows (this season)," he said on Hertha's club site herthabsc.de.

"I'm really hoping that I'll be in the thick of it in Brazil."

Brooks has played just three times for the US after pledging his allegiance to the native country of his father. He last featured in the 2-0 friendly loss to Ukraine in Cyprus in March this year.
