Hernandez back in contention for Melbourne Victory

Carlos Hernandez has returned to Melbourne earlier than expected from national team duty with Costa Rica.

The Melbourne Victory midfielder played about 25 minutes of Costa Rica’s 1-0 loss to Brazil in San Jose on Friday and was supposed to remain with the team for a friendly against Cuba on Wednesday.

But Hernandez has flown back to Australia and is now in contention for Friday night’s second A-League match of the season against Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium.

"It was a fantastic surprise for us and he trained really well this morning and he's in the mix for the Adelaide game," Victory coach Mehmet Durakovic said.

"It's a good headache to have, I've got a fantastic squad and everyone's in the mix and whoever trains well will play.”
