Carlos Hernandez has returned to Melbourne earlier than expected from national team duty with Costa Rica.
The Melbourne Victory midfielder played about 25 minutes of Costa Rica's 1-0 loss to Brazil in San Jose on Friday and was supposed to remain with the team for a friendly against Cuba on Wednesday.
But Hernandez has flown back to Australia and is now in contention for Friday night's second A-League match of the season against Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium.
"It was a fantastic surprise for us and he trained really well this morning and he's in the mix for the Adelaide game," Victory coach Mehmet Durakovic said.
"It's a good headache to have, I've got a fantastic squad and everyone's in the mix and whoever trains well will play."
