Jordan Henderson admits he wanted to take Liverpool's winning spotkick against Europa League opponents Besiktas.Mario Balotelli stepped up to successfully convert.
Henderson - who was standing in as captain while Steven Gerrard nurses an injury - was obviously disgruntled before and afterwards and was muted in his celebration of the goal, but he remained diplomatic in his post-match press conference with ITV.
He said: "It was a big goal, I thought we kept the ball well at times and we deservedly got the goal at the end. It was a big goal for us and especially keeping the clean sheet.
"I wanted the penalty, Mario felt confident and he has taken big penalties before. Everyone wants to take them. I felt confident in Mario, he has taken big penalties before and he got the nod."
