Hectic summer for Preston in transfer market

Preston chairman Peter Ridsdale is expecting an early start to the summer transfer business at Deepdale following seven players being placed on the transfer list and 14 released by boss Graham Westley last week. And Ridsdale told the Lancashire Evening Post that North End are anticipating at least four signings in the coming days on free transfers.

"The wheels have been in motion for quite a while behind the scenes," he said. "We were busy before the season ended, and the pace accelerated last week.

"I think we will be a position to announce four signings this week, maybe a couple more. It's a case of talking to the agents and working with them.

"This is a big summer for the club, everyone realises that. We've let a lot of people leave and will be bringing a lot of players in. It's not the kind of thing you do every summer, but I think we needed to do it this time to try and rid Preston of the legacy of relegation which has hung over the club for the past 12 months."
