Elias Wagner was ruled out of Hearts 2009/10 campaign after suffering a shocking injury. The Austrian teenager suffered a double fracture to his leg 15 minutes into a reserve friendly contest against Penicuik Juniors on Tuesday.

"We knew it was a bad one as soon as it happened," coach David Cowan told the club's official website.

"But there is no blame attached to anyone. It was just one of those things when Elias knocked the ball a wee bit ahead of himself and the guy's come in and challenged as he tried to nick it away.

"He caught Elias but it was just unfortunate. Some of the players turned away when they saw the injury and that says it all, really.

"After that the football didn't really matter.

"It's a bad one but he will get all the support he needs from the club to help him make as speedy a recovery as possible."
